Tarok - Background

Tarok was born into the hands of a wizard. As part of his magical experiments, this wizard was trying to create a new breed of ogres. This wizard raised him from a juvenile. When the wizard was creating, he also attempted something to speed the growth process. Tarok was not the only ogre, and also not the first.

As part of the experimentation, or an accident, Tarok gained an increased intelligence. He also gained access or ability to use magic. This wizard did not notice the evolution of this creation until it was too late. When the wizard finally found out that the ogre concealed such magical power, it was his death.

After killing the wizard, Tarok dispatched the rest of the ogres that had been created, leaving only himself. He stayed in the wizard's underground lairs, studying and experimenting, trying to develop his magical ability. Gradually, this ogre realized that he was one of great powers, and started to venture out of the lair to practice his talents. He traveled around, attacking travellers in the wild, and dispatching them in various creative and magical methods.

Eventually, this started being noticed, and he became a hunted creature. He retreated once again to the underground lairs, where he learned more from the departed wizard's tomes. Unknown to Tarok though, he was being sought. One night, hunters entered his lair. In a destructive battle, he defeated them, though suffering some wounds. After pulling himself, in agony, from the rubble of his former laboratory, he collected what he could salvage, and left the area.
